About Blue Horizon

Our methodology involves developing a preventative approach to youth issues. We want to invest in young people over a substantial length of time in order to realise their potential, not simply run activities. This approach is rooted firmly in the local community and involves developing a strong volunteer input. We seek to not only address presenting issues such as youth disaffection, anti-social behaviour, under-achievement, alcohol and drug misuse, but also to attack the root causes found in parental stress, loss of self-confidence, community alienation, lifestyle choices, loss of meaning and ethical structure. We will address these issues through several strands of work that tie together.

Faith Works

Blue Horizon serves amongst "at risk" teenage young people who are disadvantaged in social development, disengaged from formal education, at risk of alcohol and drug misuse, and presenting challenging behaviour at home and on the street.

It also serves parents of teenage young people needing support and advocates rewarding and responsible parenting.

It was set-up as an inclusive, values driven community provision by an ecumenical initiative between two Church of Scotland and one Roman Catholic Parish based in South Aberdeen housing estates of Kincorth and Cove.

Our Ethos

We are motivated by our desire to make a difference in the lives of young people & turning faith in to action. This informs the values we practice in the following ways.

Partnership

We have a strong partnership with the local High School in our project area providing them with resources and input, as shown through leading development expeditions to Peru and the Amazon.

In the development of the Street Outreach Bus project, Blue Horizon has also forged a working partnership with Grampian police.
